CRI mentoring: A vital lifeline for Myanmar believers

May 20th, 2026

The cost of discipleship for Myanmar believers is at an all-time high — yet, learning to abide in Christ through mentoring and TheWay groups has given these believers direction and hope.

Due to strict electricity limits, Myanmar citizens get a maximum of four hours of power per day — and never at scheduled times. On top of this, the military limits the flow of information by cutting off internet randomly. Combined, these two restrictions make it incredibly difficult for believers to attend mentoring.

Still, Myanmar pastors remain committed to discipleship. For many of them, CRI’s free mentoring and resources are one of the only ways they can receive the training they need to disciple their churches.

Mishael Daniel, a pastor and CRI mentoring coach, shared that many Myanmar pastors are giving up on their ministries because they feel an immense pressure to give their congregants hope — on top of the personal challenges they also face. But CRI mentoring gave Daniel the strength and direction he needed to persevere.

TheWay: Strengthening believers to face hardship

TheWay is also impactful because it’s teaching the saints to minister to each other — which means pastors don’t have to shoulder the burden alone.

Mary Hmingte, a CRI translator and TheWay group leader, shared how she prints TheWay lessons (at great personal cost, since paper is expensive), then goes through them with her group. As the members face incredible challenges — military conscription, financial hardship, persecution inside and outside their homes — they use their precious electricity and data to join Mary’s group.

For these believers, TheWay serves as the anchor they desperately need to stay firm in their faith amidst their suffering.

May prayer request

Pray that God would give CRI resources and creative ideas for reaching Myanmar pastors who are having trouble joining mentoring. Ask God to give these pastors and believers hope and faithfulness in these difficult times.
