On April 18, 400 pastors and church leaders from 18 different Church Renewal International (CRI) mentoring groups came to attend the Uganda CRI National Prayer Summit. The purpose of this event, hosted in Makindye, Kampala, was to strengthen our coaches and pastors, train them in the renewal practices, and to pray together for the Lord to spread renewal across Africa.

The Prayer Summit began with a powerful time of worship, followed by a training session on repentance by Apostle Alex Mitala, longtime CRI partner. In response, Global Director Henry Wynn led participants in a time of confession, listening prayer, and intercession for renewal to spread in Africa.
During the event, a few mentoring participants also shared testimonies. Bishop Mitchell Mukasa stood onstage —his wife, Jemima, translating by his side — and shared about the first Set Free! Retreat they attended.
During the confession time, God told Mitchell to look to his left. He glanced over and was puzzled to see nothing but an empty space. God revealed to him that he shouldn’t have been sitting alone, but beside his wife. The literal empty space represented the spiritual gaps in their marriage. Incredibly, as Mitchell received this word, Jemima was sitting in the front row, weeping as God also spoke to her about the need for renewal in their marriage.
This marked a turning point for the couple. Mitchell shared that in the two years following the Set Free! Retreat, their marriage was better than it had ever been, the way they raised their children was transformed, and their entire church was renewed. Today, they’re enthusiastic about CRI and coach their own mentoring groups.

Moving forward, Henry plans to run these National Prayer Summits quarterly to continue to encourage CRI pastors to renew their churches and disciple their people.
